Installed Froyo (Android 2.2) on my samsung i5801 (galaxy 3)

We all know what a good phone samsung i5801 (aka samsung galaxy 3) is. For the price it is selling, its a good buy. Apart from the low res screen (which is not that of a hindrance, unless you have used high res screens before), all other features are good. It can even play Divx/Xvid videos out of the box.

The only thing which it was lacking was the froyo update. Lots of new phones in the same price bracket has been released with Froyo along with the old ones who have got the official update. Now thats not cool.

After a lot of wait and false alerts, it has been confirmed that the official update will come in April. You can go thorough the link below for the same:

Well, that's a long wait. But, no worries. We can still get the taste of Froyo. Surprised...well actually its not that surprising. Below is the link which provides the step by step guide on how to achieve this. Its quite simple and you don't even have to root your phone.

Incase you want to see all these in action, checkout this youtube video:

I have updated my firmware with this method and let me tell you, its quite easy. But I don't guarantee that its risk-free. I didn't face any issues. But let me tell you one thing, the joy of having Froyo on you cell supersedes any risk.

I have just done the installation today and in the short time I spent with it, it felt good. Overall speed improvements can be seen along with some new features. GPS issue has been resolved.

I will write a separate article on my experience with Froyo. Till then, good bye.
